Hey guys, I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to get to know me as a photographer and most of all a Friend.
My name is Joey Zervoulakos. I was born in Atlanta Georgia and moved to a small island of Guam in the middle of the pacific when I was 1 years of age. Since then I have called Guam my home. Guam is a beautiful tropical island that has beautiful beaches, waterfalls and a wonderful community.
How did I get into photography? In 2007, I took a surf trip to Bali, Indonesia with my brother and a few friends from Hawaii and Colorado. We all met up in Bali to enjoy the culture, landscapes and surf. One of our friends was a Professional Photographer for National Geographic for Adventure and Landscape. He took shots that caught my eye which was a documentary and landscape style.
One day, I decided to stay at the shore instead of going surfing with the boys. So he decided to lend me his camera while they surfed. It was a huge camera, so I went around and took different shots around the beach area while they surfed. When they got back I got the photo below, and he gave me feedback on my shots and gave me advice. He said he loved this shot I got. Since then I was hooked.
I was about 18 to 20 years old then when I started taking photography seriously. I became a main photographer for a well known studio in Guam for several years, after having a falling out with the owner of the company, I decided to be a freelance photographer and wanted to open up my own studio by December of 2015. However, other business plans became my priority so I abandoned the idea of opening a studio. Since then I regained that passion for photography in late 2019 working on reacquiring photography gear.
I decided to scratch all my previous work and start from the beginning and rebuild my portfolio from here on out. I have a passion for Landscape, Documentary, Photojournalism and Portraits. I believe the best way to describe my photography is documentary.
I have a huge passion for Photography and videography which motivated me to create this website thatphotoplace.com. With that, I hope to give tips and tricks to all whose interests are in the same field as me. I may not be the best writer or have the fanciest words to express but I will do my best to provide you guys with the best tips and tricks I know in the trait.
Thank you again for taking the time to get to know me, please keep in touch.
